About me

This website has been designed by me to provide a few tips for the beginning ceramic artist, or for somebody looking for a few new ideas.

Ceramic painting has been a passionate hobby of mine for 7 years, having painted many items for myself, my family and friends. I have also painted shop samples and commissions for the local studio which first got me involved in this rewarding and addictive pastime.

Who Paints Pottery?

Young Lady paintingAnyone and everyone can paint pottery, from recording tiny babies first footprints to adults meeting up with friends to make a personal gift.
Painted pottery items make unique, thoughtful gifts and you can enjoy creating them with family or friends. Many, like me, become hooked and simply enjoy painting for pleasure.
Pottery gifts are great ideas for all occasions, including:
Mother’s day, Father’s day, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Christmas, Weddings, Birth plates, Christenings, just about anything!
Ceramics can be painted with an all over colour or can be painted using a variety of colours. Ceramic pieces can be very simple or have a lot of detail in them. Choosing an application will depend on the effect that is trying to be achieved and the design of the ceramic piece.
Supplies for painting ceramics are available through ceramic painting studios, some craft stores and online.

Ceramics are a beautiful piece of work but can seem a little overwhelming for the first time painter, here are a few tips:

Select your piece:

Try and pick something that will have a purpose, not just to sit around and gather dust. This way you will love your piece even more.

Plan a design:

Look through books, magazines, examples and ask others for opinions. It’s a good idea to start with a plan. (move your mouse over the vase)

Choose your colours:

When picking colours, think of where the piece will be used most often. If it is going in a light green room, for example, try a darker green to complement.
